Had been to the Shinto shrine "Tomioka Hachimangu" on New Year. Visiting a shrine on a New Year day is called "Hatsumodea" in Japanese. This shrine was not much crowded unlike Sensoji in Asakusa and Meiji Jingu in Harajuku , the two most famous shrines in Tokyo.
This is how the garbage disposal space in apts/mansions look around this time of the year. Since everyone is on holiday , its piles of garbage, overflowing dustbins everywhere.
